Wenzel Jamnitzer (b. Vienna, 1508 d. Nuremberg, 1585) was
a goldsmith, designer, printmaker and inventor of scientific instruments. In
1568 he published the Perspective of the Regular Solids (Perspectiva Corporum
Regularium) a compilation of fantastic geometric etchings based on
the five regular solids from Plato’s Timaeus and Euclid’s Elements.
The popularity of Perspective of the Regular Solids inspired
artists from the Northern Renaissance of 16th Century Germany to employ
new perspective methods creating imaginative geometric forms of their own.
